About Me

I am a 36 year old mother, wife, Ashtangi and business owner who often forgets to “put her own oxygen mask on first.”  This blog served to document my journey to running my first marathon on May 19, 2013 and my running and yoga adventures thereafter.

On May 23, 2012, I lost my dad to complications from diabetes and heart disease. I ran the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon on May 19, 2013 to honor his memory and to push myself to put my health first in a long list of life responsibilities.  All too often I have found myself exhausted, ill and frustrated with life in general, only to realize that my work for my career, my family and my home have come first, rather than the work of caring for me.

I started running in 2008 and completed the Couch to 5K program, running my first race in May of that year.  Along the way, I discovered that I am a runner at heart and have since completed two marathons, seven half marathons, four triathlons and a variety of other road races. While dealing with injuries from my racing adventures, I discovered the joy and peace that I found in yoga. I earned my 200 hour teacher certification in August of 2014 and currently own and teach at Great Lakes Ashtanga Yoga in Geneva, Ohio.

My blog efforts and title are inspired by Jenn Gibbons, an amazing woman and athlete who documented her efforts to row around Lake Michigan during the summer of 2012, in spite of extreme personal challenges.  You should read more about her story at http://row4row.org/

Awesome Jess!! Let me know if you want to head out for a run sometime. You could meet me up at Woodland park while the kids play football — an easy 7-10 miles around a 1+ mile route – then I watch the kids practice 🙂

I love your writing about Lavender and Lexapro. Also, the whole30 info. I am going to try that as soon as i have the money.

Thanks for sharing your info about depression and your child. Feels great knowing that there are people like you out there making the world a better place.
